Hælos are from London. The trio generated some internet buzz last year when they released their first song “Dust” on SoundCloud. They’ve since signed with Matador and finished their first album – “Full Circle”.
This is a mellow record. I initially felt it was a touch formulaic but it’s grown on me and ended up being the album I’ve played the most this month. There are a lot of good tracks here with time spent on the details. The vocals are interesting because all three members of the band sing and there’s some great layered vocal melodies. I can even listen to the somewhat cheesy Alan Watts sample in the intro now!
It definitely has some trip hop influences but is a bit gentler, maybe Massive Attack with some Moby, The Orb, and London Grammar mixed in! The openers of Pray and Dust are my favourites but the whole album is good.
