GoGo Penguin are a jazz trio from Manchester – piano, bass, and drums. They describe their sound as a “mash-up of minimalist piano themes, deeply propulsive bass lines and electronica-inspired drums”. And while they do have a strong “jazz” sound, those other influences are very much there. I can hear drum & bass, trip hop, minimalism, techno… Their music is interesting, melodic, beautiful, and very listenable. Man Made Object is their third album and their first on Blue Note and it’s just great. Brilliant stuff. I’m off to listen to their other two albums…
