I missed this album – it was released in March. Françoiz Breut is a French singer/songwriter. Zoo is her seventh album. I’ve been a fan for years, Une saison volée from 2005 is a big favourite of mine.

I couldn’t find many details about the record expect that it was recorded/produced by Adrian Utley of Portishead fame. There is one English track on the album, the rest is in French which is good because I much prefer Françoiz Breut singing French.

Zoo is a lovely slice of “Nouvelle Chanson” – that classic French sound but with a more modern pop style. Rather like the Joanna Serrat album above it’s not clichéd or old fashioned, it’s perfectly contemporary.

There’s interesting instrumentation and beautiful melodies a plenty, well worth a listen or three.
