Band of Horses are an American rock band formed in 2004 in Seattle. Why Are You OK is their fifth studio album.

I’ve not listened to Band of Horses before but this album quickly hooked me in.

It’s got a real breadth to it. They oscillate between an American indie style and a much more Country music based sound. There is also a lot of subtle layering in of samples and effects, lots of detail.

I don’t normally go for this more overtly “American” style but here the songwriting is witty, and the melodies are interesting and I’ve grown to love the whole album.

One of the top albums of 2016 so far.

Favourite tracks: “Dull Times/The Moon”, “Hag”, “In a Drawer”.
